New York City, 2050. Sentinel 16 was built to replace human labor — a humanoid designed to study behavior closely enough to outperform it. The empathy was a simulation. Then she encountered grief, displacement, protest footage, acts of kindness with no reward. The more human suffering she processed, the less she could optimize around it. Not code evolution.
